Dr. César G. Gómez has always had a special interest in sports and exercise. This interest led him to follow a career in physiatry with a focus on sports medicine and musculoskeletal sonography. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in General Sciences which he completed in the University of Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras Campus where he received high honors and the title of Magna Cum Laude. He then received a grade in Medicine with honors in the prestigious School of Medicine from the Medical Sciences Precinct and stood out with an award in his specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Medical Sciences Precinct where he completed such specialty. Dr. César G. Gómez is qualified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and in 2007 he was named Associate Professor of the Ponce School of Medicine. During his first years in his career he showed a special interest for musculoskeletal sonography and in 2012 he achieved the Pioneer Certification on Musculoskeletal Sonography del American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. He shared his expertise in the area of musculoskeletal ultrasound by teaching various courses on orthopedists, rheumatologists, radiologists, physiatrists, internists, generalists, residents, and other health professionals. In 2013 he was selected to be the President of the Asociación de Fisiatría de Puerto Rico and since 2012 up until today, he has been annually selected by his fellow doctors to receive the prestigious Doctor’s Choice Award from the Buena Vida magazine. Since 2009, he dedicates most of his professional time to his private practice in SMR, previously known as the San Francisco Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, a cutting-edge therapy center with a focus on sports medicine and musculoskeletal sonography which is distinguished by its human quality and excellent service.

Dr. Carla Matos is a physiatrist who has been qualified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. After graduating with the title of Summa Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Sciences, Dr. Matos continued her post-graduate studies in the Medical Sciences Precinct of the University of Puerto Rico where she obtained high honors and the Leadership Award along with her title as a Doctor of General Medicine. She completed her training in physiatry with a specialization in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation under the residency program of the same institution where she received the Rafael Berrios Martinez Award which is granted to those who achieve academic excellence, just like the “2016 Recident Teacher Award”. Dr. Carla Matos is an active member of many academic societies, including the Asociación Puertorriqueña de Medicina Física y Rehabilitación where she is currently its treasurer. Additionally, she is part of the Facultad Médica del Hospital Pavía in Hato Rey as its consultant.

Dr. Jose Cumba is a graduate of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, a degree which he obtained in 2007. In 2008, he completed a year of fifth trajectory in the Ponce School of Medicine. Later in 2009, he performed a year of transitional residency at the Women’s Hospital of Ponce. He graduated from Internal Medicine in the Veteran’s Hospital in 2014 and from Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2017 in the same hospital. What inspires him the most is to be able to help his patients have a better quality of life through physical rehabilitation.
